The Lokifesto
I wrote the Lokifesto as my response to the reading for pleasure crisis. Loki does not do ANYTHING he (and sometimes she and sometimes even it) does not enjoy. So this is a set of "commandments" about reading from Loki. As you might imagine, they're not about reading long, worthy books or telling children what to read. They're anarchic, as befits a trickster. Here's a download to share with your kids, your library, class, or reading group (or any other group of children and educators and people interested in reading for children).
Here’s what my publisher said about it:
“Walker Books and author-illustrator Louie Stowell are launching a bold and playful new reading manifesto inspired by the bestselling Loki: A Bad God’s Guide series.
The Lokifesto: A Bad God’s Guide to Reading sets out six “commandments” in the mischievous voice of Stowell’s trickster-god-turned-school-kid urging children to embrace reading on their own terms, whether that means “reading with your ears,” enjoying comics and other picture-led books, or choosing short and accessible texts. With Loki’s wicked encouragement, the Lokifesto aims to give children confidence, autonomy, and above all, permission to enjoy reading whatever and however they wish.”
Download the Lokifesto below and share widely, wildly and freely with the children in your life.
